The New Standards Take The Stage
Finally something fresh…The New Standards bring some holiday treats on their first visit to FM.
Vocalist and bass player, John Munson’s voice has been described as mellifluous. It’s not hard, then, to imagine the electricity that erupts with Munson, founding-member of Trip Shakespeare and Semisonic (known for their smash hit “Closing Time”), joins forces with a pop-punk rocker/crooner like Chan Poling (The Suburbs) and punk rocker – avant/jazz’s Steve Roehm. The result: The New Standards.
The New Standards set is sure to stir audiences with stark takes on covers crossing several genres, including “Maps” by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, “Such Great Heights” by the Postal Service, “London Calling” by The Clash, “and fan favorites “Hey Ya” by Outkast and “Toxic” by Britney Spears.
This unique jazz trio can regularly be seen at Joe’s Pub in New York City and enjoy sell-outs at their annual Holiday Standards Holiday Show at Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul. The Minneapolis Star Tribune calls The New Standards “one of the most fun bands out there.” This show is all-ages. Presented by Jade Presents.
