FMCT
Since its founding in 1946, the Fargo-Moorhead Community Theatre (FMCT) has provided a wide range of theatrical experiences to the Fargo-Moorhead metropolitan area and surrounding rural communities. FMCT has a rich and deep history in the region, celebrating its 65th Season during 2011-2012. The 65th season solidifies FMCT as the oldest and largest community theatre in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota. The mission of the organization is “Providing theatrical and educational opportunities to engage and enrich the greater community.”
A major portion of expanded reach for FMCT began in 2009 with the launch of the Community Collaboration Initiative. This opened FMCT’s venue to multiple area arts organizations. The first year allowed five outside theatre companies to produce theatre productions on stage at FMCT: Tin Roof
Theatre, The Bare Stage Theatre, Music Theatre Fargo-Moorhead, Red River Players, and Domres Theatricals. This shift opened FMCT’s stage to area concert promoters and other non-profits to host events in the space, such as acoustic concerts, improvisational comedy shows, fundraisers, school performances, and many others. At the same time they solidified FMCT’s mission to provide family-friendly entertainment, as well as educational programs for participants of all ages, as well as being the communities theatre.
In 2011 FMCT decided to name their current building The Stage at Island Park to allow for the community to draw a distinction between FMCT programming and the other area events held within its space. FMCT continues to be the largest and longest running community theatre producing 11 theatre productions in 2011 and 2012. They will always program community driven productions which will engage and enrich the greater community.
